We have all experienced the frustration of falling short of a goal. This not only diminishes our motivation but also has an impact on our self-esteem and influences how we approach future goals. While each person is unique and their goals are even more so, there is immense power in simply changing our mindset. Sometimes, all it takes is someone to reassure us that achieving our goals is indeed possible, leading to a significant boost in our actions and motivation. Other times, we require criticism instead of praise, which can be more effective than any other form of motivation.
If you are feeling down or in need of some encouragement for a task or goal, here are 5 quotes to uplift your mood and enhance your performance. And they may not be on the level of encouragement that you're used to.
Number One:

Do you give as much energy to your dreams as you do your fears?
Unknown Author
A question can provoke the mind in such a constructive way. When faced with a motivational slump, it's usually caused by a fear. Maybe we fear failure. Maybe we fear sacrifice. This question can make us think, are we focused more on our fears, or on our goals? Changing that focus can have dramatic effects on our results.
Number Two:

Choose Your Hard.
Devin Brough
There is an extended version of this quote, but it becomes more personal when you modify according to your weaknesses. It goes something like this:
Marriage is hard. Divorce is hard. Choose your hard.
Being fit is hard. Obesity is hard.
Choose your hard.
Being financially disciplined is hard. Being broke is hard.
Choose your hard.
Life will never be easy.
But we can choose our hard.
Choose wisely.
It's so simple, yet so profound. Just plug in whatever it is you're having a hard time with. The power of reading that when you're feeling unable to (insert task here) is exhilarating.
Number Three:

I find that the harder I work, the more luck I seem to have.
Thomas Jefferson
There is no substitute for hard work; because of this, there is no reward like the one you receive when you put in even more effort. Think of it like the wheels on a bike - once you put in a few big pushes at the beginning, it becomes much easier to cruise at a high speed with minimal effort.
Number Four:

When you take risks, you learn that there will be times when you succeed, and there will be times when you fail, and both are equally important.
Ellen Degeneres
According to the most successful individuals in the world, they have experienced numerous failures on their journey to the top. However, their approach to handling these setbacks is what ultimately propelled them to success. Failure, when utilized as a learning opportunity and a motivator to strive harder, can be incredibly advantageous. Work hard, stumble, learn from your mistakes, and keep moving forward. Use your failures to your advantage!
Number Five:

If you don't see yourself as a winner, then you cannot perform as a winner.
Zig Ziglar
Having confidence and the right mindset are crucial. No matter how much effort you exert, if you lack belief in your ability to succeed, reaching your goals will be impossible. Furthermore, even if you do achieve them, you would undermine your own success by either denying it or making excuses.
If you lack confidence, then do all you can to gain that confidence. If you're wondering how to do that, then check out our article, "Tips for Becoming the Most Confident You".
In summary, we might believe that we require encouragement to accept regression and invest minimal effort. While there are situations where that is helpful, most of the time what we truly need is to intensify our focus and effort. These quotes aim to empower and motivate you to do exactly that, approaching your goals and challenges with renewed enthusiasm. Get up, focus on your dreams instead of your fears, choose your hard, gain luck through work, learn from failure, and see yourself as a winner.
